RANGERS are through to the last four of a European competition for the first time in 36 years after last night's magnificent 2-0 win over Sporting in Lisbon.

Second-half goals from Jean-Claude Darcheville and Steven Whittaker meant Gers deservedly advanced at the Portuguese outfit's expense to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.

The Light Blues will meet Fiorentina at that stage over two legs on April 24 and May 1 after the Viola beat PSV 2-0 in Eindhoven yesterday, winning 3-1 on aggregate.
