WALTER SMITH concedes overturning Celtic's goal difference in the club's next two SPL games will be a difficult task but the gaffer insists the League Championship race is not finished just yet.

Walter SmithWith Rangers still to face St. Mirren and Aberdeen and Celtic facing a tricky trip to Tannadice on the last day of the campaign, Smith insists that there could still be a few more twists and turns in this rollercoaster campaign.

He said: "Our result today was disappointing but there is still a bit of football to be played, although overturning the goal difference Celtic have will be a difficult task.

"But if Motherwell are any indication then the games ourselves and Celtic have remaining, they will be very tough and we can't expect to simply turn up and win.

"When you look at the amount of effort Mark's lads put into the game today that's what happens in Scotland.

"People were saying this morning that they had nothing to play for today but they showed a great desire.Lee McCulloch

"There is nothing wrong with that and I am sure when we go to play St. Mirren and Aberdeen they will put in a similar level of effort as will Dundee United against Celtic."

Smith believes his side dominated the second-half at Fir Park this afternoon but in not scoring a second goal they allowed the Steelmen to get back into the game.

He said: "I felt we started the game very well although Motherwell maybe came into it at the end of the first-half.

"In the second we had an opportunity right away to probably kill the game through Daniel but didn't take it and I think that gave Motherwell a bit of a lift.

"The goal we lost ourselves was sloppy at a set piece so we were disappointed from that point of view."

Ally McCoist, Walter Smith and Kenny McDowallNext up for Rangers is the short trip to Love Street on Monday night and more changes to the Gers' line up are inevitable.

The manager said: "It is a difficult thing to try and assess.

"We had to make changes after we beat Fiorentina and we dropped points at Easter Road and the same thing has happened to us today after the final in Manchester.

"I do feel it is right to change but when you do that you do lose a bit of continuity.

"We just have to go to Love Street and try to win the game regardless of who is picked for the starting eleven."
