McCOIST insists Rangers are on track to be ready for the new season.

The Light Blues produced their best form of pre-season, albeit narrowly beating Clyde 1-0 with a goal from Nacho Novo when he inadvertently deflected Charlie Adam's shot.

Kenny MillerThe first competitive match comes next Wednesday against Kaunas at Ibrox and McCoist feels they will be on track for that one.

He said: "We might have scored more goals but it's all about getting ready for the new season. I thought we played very well tonight, I thought our possession of the ball was good and our movement was good and we created chances.

"I said to the lads at half-time and after the game that if I had one criticism it was that we didn't take our chances.

"However, the main thing is that we are ready for next Wednesday.

"I felt we had a very good balance. We asked both full backs to get further forward than they had been doing and I felt they did that very well.Arthur Numan

"Sasa and Whitts were two of our better players this evening.

"Papac has done ever so well. He made the position his own last season, not forgetting that he is centre back.

"His defending has been first class and we were asking him to get that little bit further forward. He can do it because he is a very good footballer."

It was the second match of the day for Rangers as another XI beat Morton 3-1 at Murray Park this morning.

McCoist explained: "We wanted to give everyone game. We need everyone to be match fit and ready for the season so we took the game with Morton this morning at Murray Park.

"It was a good exercise. Boydy played, Velicka scored his first goal and Charlie also scored. Again it was a good exercise."

The other bonus for Rangers was the return of Allan McGregor, playing his first game since hobbling off against Celtic last April.

McCoist said: "We are in a very fortunate position because we have two very good goalkeepers but great to see Greegsy back tonight."
