KIRK BROADFOOT has been rewarded for his his excellent start to the season by being called up to the Scotland squad for the country's crucial World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and Iceland.

Kirk Broadfoot and David WeirGeorge Burley received the news today that David Weir, David Marshall and Garry O'Connor have all withdrawn from his initial squad but moved quickly to draft in the Gers' right-back and Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield.

The national team coach watched Kirk in action at Parkhead on Sunday and would have been impressed with the way he handled the threat from Aiden McGeady and his desire to push forward at every given opportunity.

Indeed, the 24-year-old has been impressive throughout the current campaign at both centre-half and full-back and his stock has risen considerably after his performances throughout Rangers' memorable UEFA Cup run in 2007/08.

Broadfoot, who has never been picked for the full squad before, will now join Murray Park teammates Allan McGregor, Kevin Thomson, Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller at the team's HQ at Cameron House on the banks of Loch Lomond.
