Sir David Murray has announced that season ticket holders can look forward to a freeze in the price of adult and concession season ticket prices next season, and the price of juvenile season tickets will be reduced by one third!
The major initiative will help develop the next generation of football supporters and encourage more families to attend matches. Sir David Murray said: "Families and kids are the future for football. They will be the lifeblood of clubs in the years to come and all of us in football must do what we can to bring more families into the game and to encourage youngsters.
"We understand that the cost of following football is high, particularly for supporters of clubs competing for honours domestically and in Europe. This is not just an issue for Rangers but all major clubs and we must do what we can to make football more affordable and accessible for all.
"As a Club we set out new strategic objectives a couple of years ago. Obviously, building a team for the future was the first priority. The second was how we should address long-term what we do for supporters and how we can encourage the next generation and that is what we are going to promote now."
The Chairman unveiled a range of measures that Rangers will be introducing for you and other season ticket holders next season. They include:-
Adult and concession season ticket prices frozen for next season.
Juvenile season ticket prices reduced by one third (up to £81 reduction).
Juvenile supporters to have their own 'AGM' and 'face to face' audience with the Manager and players, after the shareholders AGM at Ibrox.
Juvenile season ticket holders to have free access to first team training day at Ibrox.
Free entry to Old Firm Reserve/Old Firm Under-19 games to be played at Ibrox for all season ticket holders.
Free seat transfer for season ticket holders at one-off games to enable them to bring friends and family along to the match.
The price of an average juvenile season ticket at Ibrox will fall to £134 (less than £7 per game) with prices starting from £96.
An average adult season ticket will remain frozen at £393 and concession season ticket prices will also remain frozen. A family of four will be able to save between £162 and £186. These measures will mean a collective saving to season ticket holders of £715,000!
Sir David Murray added: "The cost of doing this represents a significant investment by the Club but we believe passionately that we should be taking a lead on an issue which is growing in importance throughout Europe. We are acutely aware of how much our supporters spend on following the team and the burden on families is even greater.
"We cannot stand back and allow families to be priced out of football. We also must do everything to encourage young fans. We keep reading that children are now only interested in TV, computer games and roaming the streets. We can debate that as much as we like but as I have stated previously I firmly believe that sport is the way forward. Kids love playing it and they love watching it and our national sport should be a big part of their lives as they grow up.
"Those of us at Ibrox take great pride in being part of the Rangers family. We want to keep it that way and that's why we are putting the family at the heart of what will be happening here in years to come.
"There are exciting times ahead both on and off the pitch. The next priority in our overall strategy is to look at the regeneration of the Ibrox area and stadium to benefit our supporters and that is under consideration."
Chief Executive Martin Bain added: "The average family of four currently spends £1,540 per season attending SPL home games, including match programme, food and drink, which is a lot of money and that does not include travel to and from the match. On top of this there are away SPL games, European, Scottish and League Cup games in addition to purchasing any merchandise.
"We are very lucky at Rangers to be able to attract large attendances at matches and also have a very healthy number of season ticket holders. It is only right we explore all options to make football far more affordable and we have been looking at this for some time now.
"Obviously, rebuilding the team was the first priority in our overall strategy and we are happy with the progress made on that front. The second phase is to look at the affordability of football and services to our supporters and that is what we are doing.
"There will always be one-off games which are more expensive than others such as
big European ties or Old Firm matches but our strategy here is to focus on fans who want to watch football on a regular basis."
